A Bird's View

by Ritu Sama
(Bangalore, Karnataka, India)

Far below sometimes beyond reach
I see a few green specks...
scattered beneath.
High up in the sky,
the clouds spread farther than my wings.

I dive into the air,
thick sometimes..
sometimes fumy..
So many heads around the green space.

I perch on a branch,
watching them closely,
They are moving always..
sometimes faster than me....

I hop onto the ground,
It looks alien..
Green spaces hidden
by grey structures now..
The branches are gone
Where earlier I could swing and bow.

I sit on the hot window grills,
My feet turning cold,
It hurts to peck on the walls,
My beek starts to revolt..

I turn my back..
Leave this unknown land...
May be I will find a familiar ground,
may be its just a matter of time..
I fly as long and far as I can,
Away from my encroached space
That was once green..
That was once mine...
