Astrology: Boon or Bane

by Arjoyita Roy
(Durgapur, India)

Entangled into the shackles of red-hat, & blinded by customary one nurtures age-old customs, and surprisingly lends an ear to Astrology even in the dawn of 21st century. Astrologers can let one time travel, take one ahead of one’s time and take a sneak-peak into one’s future, decode the past and assist one to get better at one’s current endeavours to ascend the ladders of success.

Even today in the backdrop of technological assessments mortality relies on the timeworn proficiency of Astrometry, which in turn muddles with the harmony of the two generations. While the anterior origination subjects itself to the uncritical acceptance of horoscope, the posterior origination has a bone to pick regarding the matter. The perpetual difference of opinion takes a heavy toll on serenity. Humanity turns down backbreaking work and relies on the second sight of stargazers. One confines oneself to the periphery of Astrology in matters concerning Birth, Matrimony, Career, Finance, Health and even Death is not spared from the clutches of Astrometry.

Astrology upholds the thick and thin of one’s life. Forecasters are proficient at suggesting remedies for fixing one’s Fate in the nick of time. Humanity resorts to all kind of herb and hybrid ranging from idol worship, fast, charity, feeding the feral, tying amulet, wearing finger rings embedded in precious stones in the name of the divine will to ward off the evil from casting its dark shadow.

Even choice making concerning Matrimony is limited to the guidelines of astrology, where the will of the individual does not count but the nod of approval from the Astrologer is awarded supremacy. One is caught between
choice making and culture; the prospective bride and groom are left to the mercy of society and its harbingers. In a Nation, that covers a wide spectrum and gives refuge to diverse linguistic and cultural practice. Matrimony remains an apple of discord as one is compelled to tie the knot with another counterpart of the same religion and caste and astrology further complicates the process to put forth limits regarding choice making. Profession too has to abide by the protocols of Astrology.

Astrometry, according to Astrologers alone, is bestowed with the capability to trace down one’s capability; Astrologers do not refrain from suggesting one what to do and what not to. Stargazing at the one hand compels one to put in moil and relish the delicacies of life on the other hand it incongruously pressurises some to feel low at ebb.

Does Astrology possess the competency to defeat the efficacy of fate? Being dutiful to the decorum of Astrometry does not warrant one’s well-being. Offering food to a Black Dog on Saturday does not do away with Satan’s gaze. Just a dip into the holy waters without repentant does not wash away sins. Offering oblations in the Temple does not help either.

False prophecies abhor people from leading a life of peace. Had astrology possessed the magic of mending ones’ fortune would one have to put up with adversity? In the contemporary era of globalisation where scientific progress looms large people candidly fall prey to false prophecy with social sanction and wait for the will of none other than the most valued Magician; the guide to time travel THE ASTROLOGER.
