Request of Oldage

by Nuggehalli Pankaja
(Bangalore, Karnataka, India)

If offer you must, a present,

Dear youth, before we separate,

Then give, I request,

A bottle, just a small bottle

Of scent sealed.

But it should be a scent special

Dear youth,

Not all the fragrance of France

Can attract as a bottle small,

Of remembrances sweet of past.

When I in my grandfather’s chair

Sit rocking all alone,

The flavor released with care,

Will it not help to tint,

The landscape grey

And my grandchildren cheer?
