"Rainsong" - by Vimala Ramu

Reviewed by Prema Sastri in 2008

Rainsong is a series of vignettes describing various incidents in the author’s life. They range from the hilarious- The Bird Call- to the para normal-Nocturnal visitor and issues of deep social concern- Brahma’s Bad Boys. No matter what the theme, Vimala’s graceful style of writing makes the situation come alive. With her we fumble for lost slippers, enjoy an unexpected birth day celebration and puzzle over the food habits caused by cultural differences.

The book is a compilation of published writings brought out on the occasion of Wg.Cdr. Ramu’s and Vimala’s fiftieth Wedding Anniversary. RainSong is a wonderful picture album of their lives and times.

The writing is simple, yet meaningful using minimum words to get the maximum effect. An additional feature of the book is family photographs and a collection of family jokes.

The result is an entertaining book that delights the reader. Writers Workshop has done the publishing world a service by bringing out RainSong.
