Pavithra implored him not to say anything that would make his daughter unhappy. It would only create a bad impression in Indu's young mind that her stepmother was carrying tales about her to the father. “After all Indu is still a child. What does she know about the world? I am quite sure that it was not her mistake. It is quite obvious that it is her so-called aunt, in whose house she spends most of her time, who made her revolt against me and Anu. Otherwise why should she be so hostile towards us all of a sudden? I have always been so nice to her. I have done nothing to upset her young mind. I am very careful in my dealings with her,” she said to herself.

The clock angrily buzzed twelve times. Only then she realized that she must find a way to stop Indu going to Vasanthi’s house so often. Why should Vasanthi poison this innocent girl’s mind? What was she going to gain by making Indu hostile to them? The question floated in her mind. She wished her stepdaughter, whom she loved so dearly, would understand her and change her attitude soon.
