1) Erma Bombeck Writing Competition Deadline: 6 January 2026

The Erma Bombeck Writing Competition honors the spirit and style of humorist Erma Bombeck by seeking short personal essays that reflect everyday life with wit or heart. Submit previously unpublished personal essays (not fiction or poetry) in English. The competition is run by Washington-Centerville Public Library together with University of Dayton and is open to writers from anywhere in the world.

2) The Colorado Prize for Poetry Deadline: 14 January 2026

The Colorado Prize for Poetry is an international poetry book manuscript contest established in 1995, open to all themes and genres. Manuscripts must be at least 48 pages and no more than 100 pages. Individual poems may have been published before in journals, anthologies, or chapbooks, but the collection itself should be unpublished. Entrants must be at least 18 years old.

3) The Not Quite Write Prize for Flash Fiction Deadline: 25 January 2026

The Not Quite Write Prize for Flash Fiction is an international writing event that challenges writers to create an original piece of flash fiction based on two typical writing prompts plus one anti-prompt. When the competition kicks off, prompts will be announced by email, and participants have 60 hours to write up to 500 words in response. The competition is open to writers of all levels of experience worldwide, with a total prize pool of AU$4,000 up for grabs.
