She Forgot Home

by Akankshya Narayan
(Bangalore, India)

Warm, sheeny-shiny, and comforting it was,
with the essence of her innocence and strength of a Taurus.
Later, darkness filled the shabby shelves with despair
and wrecked her soul beyond repair

She craved wealth, she craved fame
her obsession for them made her walk through the flame.
She labored for hours and cried for another twelve
till she burned her eyes and killed herself.

The void was made in her heart when she doffed herself away,
her hubris suborned grim to come and turned her life dull and gray.
She conjured grief and allowed it to roam
till she winnowed her devotion and forgot home.
