Among the Crowd
by Sneha Subramanian Kanta
(Mumbai, India)
Blooming alone
Among the crowd I walk on the lonely street; A Flutter of people pass by me Unnoticed goes the half-naked child Sitting on the edge of the road And looking at the sky
He probably is sure that the heavens are hearing his cry He seems starved and frail But people still walk by
Each one without a smile Like undistinguished smoke that flies out of the chimney - - in that mill
People walk on and I-- remained stranded here The small boy seems to have caught my sight for reasons more than a few
But I have to walk; I have to go on There is no space for Solitary Loners.
