Gift of Life

On the hospital bed she lay
Gripping the bed sheet
Prayers in her mind
Sweat on her forehead
Screaming in soreness
Exploiting her strength
Pushing in pain

Her hard labor comes to end
Her mouthful of air settles down
Bloodstain on the bed
She gives birth to the baby girl
Doctor hands her
her little angel

The baby bestowed
She carries in her hand
Unsteady infant
Gripping mother’s fingers
Baby makes noise of cry

Bliss on her face
Tears of joy
Hugh of warmness
Kiss of love
Blessings from her heart
Dreams in her eyes
The precious gift of her life
From her beloved
Watching them from the skies.
