The Touch-me-not

by Maitrayee Chowdhury
(Guwahati,Assam,India)

When life began on this earth;
And little nebulae took their form;
Some were very weak,
And some became very strong.

The moon and the stars;
Brightened the place at night,
Said "hello" to their friends,
Who were now searching for might.

The strong defeated the weak,
The weak further defeated the weaker,
Hushed were the voices because,
There came a serendipitous seeker.

When ripples formed in rivers,
And waves roared in seas,
Mighty creatures ruled the earth,
With the shy eyes a touch-me-not sees.

The shy plant reasons someday,
As to why it cannot be the strongest;
But then a falling autumn leaf kisses her,
And she feels shy again.
