Nurture with Gentle Care!

by Neelam Tyagi
(Bhopal, India)

When I look back at my life,
I feel so blessed.
We were fortunate to be
cherished and nurtured by our dear
and near ones,
who encircled us in the warmth of
their love.

We grew up in large families,
which gave us above and beyond our
simple needs.
Love, laughter and tears,
were the basic ingredients of our growing up years.
Our elders were our positive role models,
we learnt the art of living
simply by observing and doing.

Every simple chore was like a ritual
practised with utmost honesty and simplicity.
Life was a colourful collage,
each member complimenting one another
and making life a joyful celebration!

But somehow somewhere we disintegrated,
the families fragmented!
We lost trust
with our folks, we refused to adjust.
The free-flowing love became conditional,
as each got busy in self acclamation.

Today, we are on our own,
we have to manage alone.
With no support system in place,
our little angels are lonely and feel displaced.
We live in perpetual guilt
causing our tender relations to wilt.
The worst sufferers are our innocent heir
who were to be nurtured with love and care.

Unfortunately, we led them on this tangled road,
away from the comfort of home.
In our quest for more and more
we have lost the indefinable essence of life!
Our life which was governed with simplicity,
has now become a riddle wrapped in mystery!
Our children are caught in a whirlpool
of boundless circles,
moving in different directions!

We have to unburden ourselves of all the cataclysm and guilt
embrace our values, and our future we must rebuild.
To give a chance to our children
to paint their destiny with bright colours on the limitless sky.
Come let’s go back home to our golden heritage
and nurture our children with gentle care!
