My Lotus

by Parneet Jaggi
(Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan, India)

The sour glances
The biting words
Piercing the core of the heart
As the spiky feet crumble
a tender butterfly
to squeeze the last drop
of juice
so that is never born again.
Heart trembles as
a cyclone scares a tiny boat
Cutting through the waves
with the finest fortitude
Waters are naughty
Violent
Even murderous,
But God's mercy-
I have a lotus to look at
That stands so erect
Sparkling scintillant
Amidst the muddy waters
Gazing at the sky....
Nowhere else
So what the waters are violent
Not holding me?
So what land is far off?
I have my own skies
My very own
Where it's just me
with my lotus gazing at me !!!!!
