Scarred For Life

by Shietal Ramesh
(Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India)

Her effervescent smile made my day,
The sparkle in her eyes
Held me a sway,
Her heart, as lovely as her face,
God, I could never take away my gaze.

The times we spent together – blissful were they,
With love so strong – that would put hate to shame.
Binding us for life,
Or so I thought ...........

Alas ! came the ill fated day,
Forever blemishing her lovely face,
The rogue of a guy killed her alive,
Letting her die a hundred deaths.

Still as a stone she stands before me,
Comatose and lifeless.
Her smile long gone,
Her eyes brimming tears of grief ,
Her words few and rare,
Engulfed into a deathly silence.

She turns her gaze away from mine ,
And walks into a world that is not ours.
Leaving me searching ,
For the sparkle in her eyes,
That used to hold me a sway.

Quite apt

Very moving, more so because, nowadays
acid-throwing seems to be becoming a rampant ,
sadistic hobby searing not only the individual, but also family ! It is time to bring awareness
through all mediums, and the poet here has done it very well!
